چکیده

We introduce a way of simulating the creation of simple Origami (paper folding). The Origami is created in a thin shell simulation that realistically models the behavior and physical properties of paper. We demonstrate how to fold and crease the simulated paper wherever the user desires. This work employs cuttingedge advances in the field of discrete shell modeling to meet the challenge of simulating Origami. We found that the discrete shell model is capable of creating simple Origami that does not involve paper to paper collisions. For more advanced origami, however, some kind of collision detection and resolution scheme is required. Further research is necessary to implement collision handling while maintaining a practical simulation speed.

Folding to Curved Surfaces: A Generalized Design Method and Mechanics of Origami-based Cylindrical Structures

Origami structures enrich the field of mechanical metamaterials with the ability to convert morphologically and systematically between two-dimensional (2D) thin sheets and three-dimensional (3D) spatial structures. In this study, an in-plane design method is proposed to approximate curved surfaces of interest with generalized Miura-ori units. Using this method, two combination types of crease l...

DNA origami templated self-assembly of discrete length single wall carbon nanotubes.

Constructing intricate geometric arrangements of components is one of the central challenges of nanotechnology. Here we report a convenient, versatile method to organize discrete length single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWNT) into complex geometries using 2D DNA origami structures. First, a size exclusion HPLC purification protocol was used to isolate uniform length, SWNTs labelled with single st...

On the combinatorics of an origami model

We consider the problem of how the assembly process of an origami model, made up of similar pieces, can be completed given that at each step there are several choices. A result is given in the language of graphs that provides a sufficient condition underwhich assembly of the model will never fail. © 2008 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Plan Folding Motion for Rigid Origami via Discrete Domain Sampling

Self-folding robot is usually modeled as rigid origami, a class of origami whose entire surface remains rigid during folding except at crease lines. In this work, we focus on finding valid folding motion that brings the origami from the unfolded state continuously to the folded state. Although recent computational methods allow rapid simulation of folding process of certain rigid origamis, thes...

Ionic permeability and mechanical properties of DNA origami nanoplates on solid-state nanopores.

While DNA origami is a popular and versatile platform, its structural properties are still poorly understood. In this study we use solid-state nanopores to investigate the ionic permeability and mechanical properties of DNA origami nanoplates. DNA origami nanoplates of various designs are docked onto solid-state nanopores where we subsequently measure their ionic conductance. The ionic permeabi...
